Buckinghamshire Council are seeking to prosecute the individual responsible for fly-tipping a mass of scrap iron on a town high street.

A resident reported a fly-tipping incident to the website Fix My Street this morning (Monday, April 17) sharing photos of a heap of scrap iron they had found opposite All Saints Church on Marlow High Street.

They described the fly-tip as "potentially dangerous and appalling behaviour" and noted that it was partially obstructing the pavement footpath.

Gareth Williams, Cabinet Minister for Climate Change and Environment, said: "We'd like to thank the person who reported this incident to us this morning. Our waste team will arrange for clearance to take place as soon as possible.

"Once again, we'd like to remind people that the dumping of waste in this way is dangerous, unsightly and very much illegal. Our household recycling centres are available for people to dispose of waste safely and legally. Please don't fly-tip."

"If we are able to gain evidence of who carried out this dumping, we will look to prosecute."

Buckinghamshire Council can issue £400 fixed penalty notices to fly-tippers for failing a 'duty of care', or, if the incident is serious, they can issue a court summons.

Last year, the council received £50k of funding from the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs to deploy enforcement cameras to identify and report fly-tippers.

A man was prosecuted at High Wycombe magistrates' court in January 2023 and forced to pay a total of £2,900 after cameras captured him dumping waste in a woodland area near Hedgerley.

Residents are encouraged to report fly-tipping incidents on Fix My Street.
