A Bucks man has slammed a local council for 'negligence' after a lack of longterm repairs to his 'pothole covered' road.

Andrew Gibson from Walkwood Rise in Beaconsfield told the Free Press that the lack of council action to fix the potholes along his road was "negligent".

Mr Gibson said he had initially reported the stretch of road to the council in December 2022, but longterm action still hadn't been taken.

"The potholes that have been filled in haven't lasted long and it feels like every time I come out of my drive, I'm going over another pothole. The road's just covered in them.

"I've been reporting them on FixMyStreet but they haven't been fixed - it's just unacceptable and not fit for purpose."

Mr Gibson also described the area as a "danger to the public" and said that while he understands the road may be on Buckinghamshire Council's to-do list, he believes repair works are not happening fast enough.

The council has previously apologised for delays in carrying out pothole repairs across the county, with representatives stressing that unsafe roadways are a national issue rather than a local one.

According to figures obtained by PA in April 2023, the RAC has seen a nationwide increase of 39% in vehicle faults caused by poor road surfaces compared to the same period last year.

Steven Broadbent, cabinet member for transport at Buckinghamshire Council said: “After a prolonged cold and wet winter, we have started our enhanced Spring and Summer programme around the county, as we have released additional funding to tackle the impact weather has left on the roads.

"Although this programme is for significant resurfacing works, we are also still prioritising potholes based on safety and are working hard to resolve them all as soon as possible.

“In this particular case, the route from the A40 to Walkwood Rise is on the programme to be resurfaced this summer. We understand that some residents may feel as their roads are being ignored, but we regularly attend the areas reported to FixMyStreet to inspect the road network and to make sure that the road conditions stay safe until a permanent fix has been issued.

"We want to urge all residents to keep reporting potholes on FixMyStreet and thank them for their patience.”
