A lake in Buckinghamshire has been named as number one most popular fishing spot.

Farlows Lake in Iver has landed the most popular fishing spot nomination in the UK.

The Bucks fishing hotspot in the Colne Valley beat places like Esthwaite Water in the Lake District and Devon’s Anglers Paradise in research by outdoor brand Khyam.

Fishing has boomed in popularity in recent years as holidaymakers turned to camping and UK staycations in the post-pandemic world and tried new outdoor activities, Khyam’s brand director Nick Roberts said.

“Many campsites and cottages also have their own fishing lakes which may have driven interest,” Nick said.

“It can also be an inexpensive hobby, and studies have also shown that it can have a positive impact on our mental health.”

Farlows Lake had most mentions in Khyam's research, which looked at repeated mentions of each location in angling publications’ lists and social media hashtags related to fishing.

The popular carp lake Farlows had 6,990 hashtag, the runner-up Angler’s Paradise had 6,949 mentions, Esthwaite Water 2,463, Elphicks Fisheries in Kent had 1,849 mentions and Stanwick Lake Fisheries in Northamptonshire had 1,320 hashtag mentions.

Alongside carp, anglers at Farlows Lake regularly reel in pike, tench, bream, roach and perch.

The fishery on Ford Lane near the M25 also boasts a tackle shop equipped with fishing gear, showers and toilets and a cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks.

The new research comes after a Buckinghamshire woman reeled in the biggest carp ever caught by a female.
