A developer has revealed an ‘updated’ plan to turn a shopping centre into new homes.

The owner of the Chilterns Shopping Centre in High Wycombe has launched another consultation following tweaked plans for the site.

Dandara Living is proposing to turn the shopping centre on Frogmoor into purpose-built rental apartments and retail space.

The initial plans last year put forward 313 homes, a number that has now been reduced to 308 fully furnished apartments.

The emergency escapes have also been improved and the exterior design has been “subtly changed,” Dandara Living said.

As part of the proposed scheme, the existing frontages along Church Street, Queen Street and Frogmoor will be retained, including the original heritage structures.

A new pedestrian route linking Priory Road and Frogmoor remains part of the revised plan going forward.

Now the developer is reconsulting on the new design.

A spokesperson for Dandara Living said: “So far we have received extremely positive feedback for our proposal, which is broadly supported amongst a wide range of local stakeholders. It is widely accepted that introducing a new residential use on the site will help to rejuvenate this part of town and fits into the wider plans to regenerate High Wycombe.”

The developer said a planning application will be submitted to Buckinghamshire Council “within the next few months” and a decision is expected next year.

The remaining businesses have been moving out of the Chilterns Shopping Centre to new premises or are planning to do so, including the popular Air Raids Shelter Cafe and Primark
