The new Mayor and Chair of Gerrards Cross Town Council will be elected tonight at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM).

The Council will meet at 7:30pm to vote on outgoing Mayor Andrew Wood’s replacement following his resignation a week ago.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the EGM and the Planning Committee meeting beforehand, which is set to start at 7pm.

Both meetings will be held in Room 4 at GXCA (Gerrards Cross Community Association), 8 East Common, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, SL9 7AD.

A Deputy Mayor and Deputy Chair of the Council will also be elected for the electoral year 2023 – 2024.

Tonight’s EGM agenda also includes the discussion of the recent resignations of six councillors from the parish authority over the relationship between the outgoing Mayor Mr Wood and Town Clerk Jiya Jilani.

A large number of residents are understood to want to attend tonight’s EGM and Planning Committee.

The planning agenda includes commenting on a replacement dwelling at 49 Marsham Way, and modifications to a side wall at 10 Marsham Lane, a plan that has drawn several letters of objection.

Other items include changes of use, tree works and the demolition of 40 Birchdale Gerrards Cross, SL9 7JB.
