A "frustrating" lane closure that has been causing huge traffic jams for motorists, traders and residents could finally be set to end.

Thames Water has apologised to drivers in Marlow for delays caused by an ongoing lane closure on the A404 while sewer replacement works take place.

Drivers in Marlow have faced delays after Thames Water closed a lane on September 10 while 'temporary' sewer replacement works take place.

In a statement posted to the Thames Water website, a spokesperson apologised to drivers who had been impacted by the works, confirming that they would be completed next week.

They said: "We have built a new pipe to replace a damaged section of sewer in Fieldhouse Lane.

"The repair is likely to take a few days and we anticipate completing it around Monday, September 25."

They said the lane closure had been implemented after a nearby pumping station was switched off following the discovery of a damaged pipe, with tankers used to transfer sewage.

"This will be a temporary fix for around six months. During this period, we'll have time to plan a full replacement of the sewer, which is close to a railway line.

"We're really sorry if your journey has been delayed as a result. We'll need to keep this lane closure in place until the repair is completed in a few days' time.

"We'll provide more updates when we have further information to share."
