A popular restaurant has given an exclusive sneak peek inside after a makeover.

The Ethorpe Hotel in Gerrards Cross is getting ready to open its doors after a month-long renovation.

The restaurant, which is regarded as one of the best places to eat in Gerrards Cross, had a complete revamp alongside the hotel room interior and the spacious garden.

Long-standing regular customers Stan and Rita Fiferman had come as guests of honour to take a first look of their favourite restaurant and hotel.

Rita said: “We’ve been coming here since about 2012. What we normally do is book something to see in the cinema, opera or the ballet and spend a couple of nights here. It’s a local getaway for us, which is so nice.

“The staff here are so gorgeous, like family. We hug each other when we see each other. We just love it.”

The 93-year-old movie sound editor Stan, who is known for his work on The Beach starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Superman, said the new look was “very fresh.”

The couple, who now live in a retirement village in Denham, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in May.

General manager Paul Tugwell told the Free Press: “The building was tired and needed updating to a modern standard. Although it was already very good, hopefully it will be even better now.”

He said his favourite detail was the autumn, winter and summer themed interior, which will go into all new Chef & Brewer Collection country pubs.

He said: “The menu is still the same, but we have a bank of specials that we can pick from.

“Hopefully we’ll stay the best restaurant for many years to come.

“The outside area will be far better. We have an outside pergola coming which can be heated and it’s also going to be table service outside, so it’s going to help people get the same service as inside.

The Ethorpe Hotel remains dog friendly, with "well-behaved" pooches welcome outside and inside within a dedicated section at the bar, Paul said.

All the hotel rooms have been redone to a “very high standard,“ including trendy print wallpaper and bathrooms.

"I think we’ll be quite competitive within the area," he added.

The Ethorpe Hotel is set to open officially on Monday, October 16.
