The newly elected mayor of a Bucks town has come under fire for “allowing” workers building his luxury flats to park on a public green.

Brian Peck, who was elected Mayor of Gerrards Cross Town Council in September, is managing director of local property developer, Mentmore Homes.

His company is building a three-storey apartment block of 12 luxury flats for the over-55s called Colston Court.

In the weeks since Cllr Peck was elected, construction vehicles and cars for the development have been photographed on East Common, which has been chewed up by a digger.

This is despite the Council refusing Mentmore Homes’ request to allow contractors to park on the land next to Colston Court in June 2023 – before Cllr Peck was Mayor.

Since becoming Mayor, Cllr Peck has been accused of “abusing his position” and “defying a Council order” issued before his election. The Mayor has declined to comment.

Resident Peter Jones, 68, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): “I am completely shocked to find that the new chairman of the Gerrards Cross Town Council, Mr Brian Peck, of Mentmore Homes has been abusing his position in the first week of his chairmanship.

“His workers have been parking on East Common private commons area, protected by locking posts.

“Larger pieces of equipment have also been using this area to access the site which is completely against the town.”

The semi-retired grandfather-of-four also called for action from the five other councillors who currently sit on the Council alongside Cllr Peck.

He added: “I’d also have to ask where the rest of the councillors are in enforcing previous decisions. … Do your jobs or resign!”

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Welcome to the new car park in Gerrard’s Cross!”

The resident claimed they had been assured by a councillor that the Common would no longer be used as a car park but said that vehicles continue to park there.

They said: “A few more cars and vans have arrived; it’s making the council look out of control.”

They added: “Since then he has put a digger on and dug away an area of the grass so he can concrete his basement.”

Cllr Peck was granted planning permission by Buckinghamshire Council to demolish the former Colston Court building and erect 12 flats in June 2023.

The development is of mixed Georgian and Arts and Crafts style and includes basement parking for residents.

Cllr Peck was elected Mayor of the Council four weeks ago, following the mass resignation of six councillors, including former Mayor Andrew Wood.
