The new Mayor and Chairman of Gerrards Cross Town Council has worn his chains of office in a new picture.

Brian Peck, who was elected Mayor in September, donned the civic regalia as he posed in front of a tree in the council car park.

The picture of Cllr Peck, who replaces Andrew Wood as Mayor, was posted to the council website on October 30.

He told the BBC Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): “The reason that my photo appeared yesterday was because a councillor asked the Proper Officer to change the photo of the previous Mayor to update the current position.

“I popped in to meet the Proper Officer yesterday and asked her to take my picture.”

Cllr Peck was elected as Chair and Mayor of the council at its extraordinary general meeting on September 18, which followed the resignation of six councillors, including Mr Wood.

During the meeting – attended by just four councillors – Cllr Peck and Cllr Jaspal Chhokar proposed one another for the Chair and Deputy Chair roles for the rest of 2023/2024 (until May 2024).

However, a source told the LDRS this week that the election of the new Mayor has not been ratified at a full council meeting.

They claimed that Cllr Peck, who is a local property developer, cannot be declared the new Mayor until the next annual general meeting.

But Cllr Peck disputed this, telling the LDRS that he was “declared Mayor/Chairman” of the council at the September 18 meeting.

He said: “This was completely in line with the Summons issued for this extraordinary general meeting.”

He added: “The position of Mayor dates back some years ago when Mr Chris Brown was the Mayor and the Chairman of Gerrards Cross Town Council.”
