A group of women, men and children required emergency treatment after a tumble dryer fire.

A fire was reported inside a home on Chairborough Road in High Wycombe on Sunday, November 5 shortly after 9am.

Smoke was billowing into the air from a three-storey house when the fire crews arrived.

One fire engine and crew from High Wycombe, one from Tinker Lane, Windsor, and one from Maidenhead attended along with two officers.

South Central Ambulance Service also attended.

Three women, three men and two children were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

The firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel, a thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The gas and water supplies were also isolated to make the area safe. The firefighters asked the electricity provider to attend because the fuseboard was destroyed by the fire.

The fire likely started by a tumble dryer located in the stairwell.

The fire crews removed the washing machine and tumble dryer before carrying out a Home Fire Safety visit at the home and two neighbouring properties.

Thames Valley Police also attended.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: “Whatever kitchen appliances you have in your home, it's worth reviewing our safety tips to help keep you and your family safe!”

To be considered for a Home Fire Safety Visit you can email your name, address, phone number/contact details to referrals@bucksfire.gov.uk or call 01296 744477.

The fire service said on its website: "In recent years Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has attended multiple accidental house fires where a kitchen appliance such as a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher or fridge freezer was the source of ignition.

"Increasingly the appliance catching fire has already been recalled by the manufacturer."
