A High Street in Buckinghamshire will close for over eight hours tomorrow for a popular late-night shopping event that will include real reindeer and a Santa’s Grotto alongside food and craft stalls.

Marlow High Street will close to motorists at 1:30pm tomorrow (December 7) for the town’s annual late-night shopping Christmas market, with a through-way reopening at 10pm, after performers have departed and vendors packed up their wares.

Jo Braybrooke, a member of the Marlow Chamber of Trade committee who has organised the event for the last 20 years alongside her husband but recently handed over the reins to Chamber president Peter Evans, said the early closure of the road was to ensure safety and security for all attendees.

She added that tomorrow's event promises to be just as packed full of festivities as in previous years, with a Santa’s Grotto and real reindeer among the attractions following a 6pm opening ceremony with carols, a performance from a junior school choir and a few words from Rev. Dave Bull of All Saints Church about the meaning of Christmas.

A range of stallholders, some local and others from farther afield will also set up shop along the High Street, showcasing a range of festive food and drink as well as artisan gifts and crafts.

Mrs Braybrooke said the Chamber worked hard to combine the traditional spirit of Christmas with the late-night shopping event, which annually attracts a crowd of around 3000, concluding that it was a reliably “lovely” evening, with something for every member of the family.

Motorist diversions during tomorrow’s road closure will be available via Pound Lane and West Street.
