SHOCKED families said children could have been inside the nursery when a car crashed into its wall on Christmas Day.

Acre Wood Nursery School in Woodside Road, Amersham was badly damaged after a Mercedes crashed into one of their classrooms.

Company CRL Fire & Flood Damage were tasked with removing the vehicle on Thursday, December 28, and reinforcing the hole to ensure the building is safe.

It is expected that work to repair the building will continue in the coming days, with some discussion of further protective measures.

Bucks Free Press:

Julie whose children attended the nursery said: “That is the room the older children sit and play in.

"If the accident had occurred during the day there would have been children sat right behind that wall.

“It is quite unsettling.”

The 47-year-old described the nursery as “lovely” and fondly recalled the time her children attended.

Throughout the morning, cars and pedestrians stopped to look at the damage, with many expressing their horror at the scene.

There was a general sense of shock among those who saw the hole in the wall.

After the car was moved, as pictured, it was towed out of the hole and put onto a removal vehicle.

Police attended to stop traffic on the busy Woodside Road whilst the removal happened.

Police confirmed earlier today they received a report of “drink or drug driving” at about 6.15pm on Monday, December 25.

A 59-year-old woman from Amersham was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit and failure to provide a specimen at the roadside.

She has since been de-arrested.
