Firefighters have responded to five incidents in Buckinghamshire caused by flooding in the last 24 hours as the impact of Storm Henk continues to be felt across the UK.

One appliance and crew attended a flood impacting two properties in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, which were affected by heavy rainfall just before 9pm last night (January 4).

Firefighters used sandbags, hydro sacks and a portable lump to redirect the water and isolated the electric supply in the property.

Around an hour later, just before 10pm, an appliance and crew were called to The Green in Stoke Hammond where three houses were being impacted by flood water.

Firefighters used a portable pump to redirect the water out of the properties and also isolated the electric supply to the ground floor.

At 10:37pm last night (January 4), three crews and a boat were called to Beachampton in Milton Keynes, where a vehicle had become stuck in the flood water.

The firefighters rescued a man from the vehicle, uninjured, and used a rescue sled to bring two other adults to safety after putting a temporary road closure in place.

At 5:10am this morning (January 5), the crews and a boat were similarly called to Grove, Slapton, where three cars had become submerged in flood water.

Firefighters helped a man out of a vehicle, uninjured, and used a thermal imaging camera, throwlines and an immediate emergency care kit after putting a temporary road closure in place.

In the latest flooding incident report, an appliance and crew were called to Naphill in High Wycombe where a property on Main Road had been affected by flood water at 10:43am this morning.

The firefighters used a portable pump to redirect the water out of the property and isolated the electric supply.

It comes after the Environment Agency issued a new yellow weather warning for rain across the county which will remain in place until early tomorrow morning (January 6).

Areas including along the A413 between Amersham and Denham and low-lying ground in Marlow and Bourne End have experienced severe flooding over the recent days and 20 flood warnings are currently in place across the county.

A spokesperson for Buckinghamshire Council said: “With more heavy rain expected on already saturated ground, we’re advising residents to be prepared and to take a look at the advice from the Met Office and Environment Agency.

“Steps are already being taken, as evidenced by the precautionary flood defences deployed at the Willows Estate in Aylesbury.

“Residents are advised to stay safe, look out for their fellow neighbours and adhere to instructions on continuing normal life, especially concerning travel during severe weather conditions.

“The importance of awareness of personal and property safety measures cannot be overemphasised in these unpredictable conditions.”
