A village in Berkshire has been left without electricity following severe flooding, leaving the area largely cut off.

Cookham has been cut off from surrounding areas after the closure of the three main roads into the area.

These include Sutton Road and the B4447 - with the relief road which runs along the latter operating via traffic lights for residents only.

Now Scottish and Southern Electricity Network is reporting a power cut in the village.

A total of 15 postcodes are currently without power, following a report of no power at 5:37am this morning (January 8).

An engineer is currently on site.

Scottish and Southern Power said: "We're sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can."

Cookham has seen river levels rise since Storm Henk, with the B4447 closing on Friday, January 5 following the River Thames bursting its banks.

Maidenhead MP Theresa May visited Cookham on Sunday, January 7, to see the flooding for herself.

She said: "I'm surprised at how quickly it has got so bad.

"I've just been at Hurley, they said that came up very quickly overnight.

"I think we were all hoping that it was going to be fine locally and suddenly it has just increased.

"The Environment Agency told me they think it should be going down from tomorrow, so hopefully this is the worst we are going to see."

Mrs May added that the Environment Agency had told her the water levels would begin receding today (January 8).

It was also found that the Jubilee River, built to protect Windsor and Maidenhead from flooding, was operating at "full capacity".
