A FATHER who filled up his car with diesel in High Wycombe is warning residents to be careful after the fuel was contaminated with water.

Marian Coman from Wycombe visited Jet on Desborough Park Road on Saturday, January 6, to buy diesel.

He filled up the car with 14 litres of diesel when 20 minutes later, an error message popped up on the car dashboard reading: "Water in fuel - Contact Service".

Marian then witnessed white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

The incident happened around 12.40pm on Saturday, shortly after attending his son's football training.

Mr Coman said: "I've called Greenflag (my breakdown provider) to assist me with the car and they have told me that the car needs to be seen by Fuel Doctor or to take it to a garage, to have the tank drained and filters changed, which will cost me a good few hundred pounds, that's if the engine has not been affected."

Mr Coman has been left with the added expense and inconvenience of borrowing and insuring a car for daily use, enabling him to continue her everyday duties.

Expressing his frustration, he said: "I didn't need this now, especially after the Christmas holiday..."

Since reporting the issue to Jet the fuel pumps have been out of use.

Trading Standards has also been notified.

Other drivers have also experienced issues with filling up their cars with diesel.

One driver said: "I had the same problem the day before Xmas eve, I filled from Jet garage and had a whole tank of contaminated diesel, cost me nearly £500 to replace the filter and sensor then getting the fuel doctor to drain the fuel.

"This is what came out of it nearly 40 per cent water!"
