A Bucks mayor has denied failing his town by not calling in a ‘monstrous’ plan to build new homes.

The Mayor of Beaconsfield Jackson Ng was criticised for not publicly opposing a controversial plan to demolish the existing property at 11 Meadow Lane and squeeze three new homes onto the same plot.

People in the town have urged Mr Ng to call in the application to the planning committee in his role as a Buckinghamshire councillor for the Beaconsfield ward.

His fellow ward councillors Anita Cranmer and Alison Wheelhouse have called in the housing plans, which have received a string of objections due to the proposed homes’ height, impact on neighbours, access and other issues.

Councillor Jackson Ng hit back at his critics in a statement to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

He said: “I am a deeply committed local politician who serves both as a Buckinghamshire councillor and on Beaconsfield Town Council, as Mayor.

“The planning application in question, determined by Buckinghamshire Council, came before the Town Council and we raised concerns over the original plans, plus two of the local Buckinghamshire members called it in at that point.

“It was then amended and resubmitted with those concerns addressed, at which point the Town Council had no further objections, so I saw no reason therefore to call this decision in.”

Cllr Ng added that councillors “need to weigh up very carefully” which applications they call in for scrutiny and should not do so “for political motives”.

He said: “Since being elected, I have called in many planning applications that are of strategic concern to Beaconsfield and our residents, especially those concerning our Green Belt.”

One neighbour living near the proposed development said: “The plans for three new dwellings on the plot currently occupied by one detached property and garage will result in a monstrous over-domination of original properties on the Ronald Road end of Meadow Lane.”

Meanwhile, another Beaconsfield resident, who wished to remain anonymous, hit out at Cllr Ng over the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Plan, which would govern future development in the town.

They told the LDRS: “Cllr Ng is behind this rush to finalise the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Plan even though it has been poorly drafted and needs some parts revised which the Town Council is refusing to do.

“What many find odd is Cllr Ng is a barrister and one would have expected him to be aware of the shortcomings in the Neighbourhood Plan, yet he still wants this plan adopted ASAP, and no one seems to understand why the rush.”

They added: “The plan now drafted has been sent to Bucks Council for scrutiny and if unchanged it will be the adopted plan that the local community is vote on and if approved, it will influence how Beaconsfield will be developed.

“Whether the plan is reviewed or not in 2026, it could be too late to correct the existing flaws in the Plan.”

Cllr Ng said he attends as many Buckinghamshire Council meetings as possible as a ward member but had to weigh these against his responsibilities as a father of a young family and his work as a barrister and as Mayor of Beaconsfield.
