A PETROL station in High Wycombe has started offering compensation payments after motorists used 'contaminated fuel'.

Multiple cars were left broken and damaged after customers filled up at Jet filling station on Desborough Park Road on Saturday, January 6.

One father said she was "not happy at all" by the offer of £400 in compensation he was offered for the £360 repair bill, £105 for a hire car and two days loss of earnings from work.

Jet said they are working to collect details from affected customers and 'investigating the matter'.

Marian Coman said: "I've just received an offer from the garage to settle the claim for £400...I've been almost a week without the car plus Thursday and Friday I've had to take days off work.

"I'm not happy at all. I've paid 105 to have a car for three days (I will send them the private rental agreement ) and they will have to cover that as well plus the disruption of my daily life.

"I've lost two days of work as well worth £300."

The garage charged Marian £360 in total to replace the fuel filter, remove the contaminated fuel and put in diesel.

Since Saturday, January 6, the Free Press has received five complaints in total from drivers about their cars breaking down after visiting Jet on Desborough Park Road, High Wycombe.

David Pearson suspects the station hasn't changed its fuel tanks in nearly two decades.

He said: "I filled up last week and ever since then it's been hard to start my van."

After refuelling elsewhere, he noticed a significant improvement.

"I filled up today [Thursday, Jan 11] with Shell V Power diesel and the engine feels completely different, no starting problems like before."
