The Liberal Democrats have selected Steve Lambert as their prospective parliamentary candidate for Aylesbury.
The town mayor hopes to become the first Lib Dem MP for Aylesbury at the next general election, which is set to take place this year.
The Lib Dem candidate moved to Aylesbury from London in 2001 and has been a local councillor for more than 20 years.
Cllr Lambert, who is also a Buckinghamshire unitary councillor, said he was “honoured and humbled” to be chosen as the Lib Dem candidate for Aylesbury.

He added: “Having lived here for nearly 25 years I am passionate about getting the best outcomes for our residents and making it an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The new constituency boundaries for Aylesbury include Aston Clinton, Aylesbury Town, Bierton, Buckingham Park, Fairford Leys, Kingsbrook, Watermead and Wing and Ivinghoe.
The current MP for Aylesbury is the Conservatives’ Rob Butler, while Labour is yet to announce its parliamentary candidate.
