Demolition work has begun on the future site of a new college campus in the centre of a Buckinghamshire town.

The Buckinghamshire College Group told the Free Press last month that it was ploughing ahead with plans to build a seven-storey college building and campus in High Wycombe, and a photo snapped on Tuesday, February 6, shows that work is now underway on the project.

A planning application to demolish the existing structures at 30-34 Oxford Road was approved last April, and the new campus is expected to be fully operational by 2025.

The Buckinghamshire College Group currently teaches over 7,000 students at its sites in Aylesbury, Amersham and Flackwell Heath, but the new High Wycombe development is set to replace all but the Aylesbury faculties.

Principal and CEO of the group Jenny Craig said the new campus would "enable many more students to access and benefit from industry-standard learning spaces" and "enhance our ability to respond to employers' current and future skills needs".

Deputy Cabinet Member for Town Regeneration at Buckinghamshire Council Rachel Matthews said the site would "contribute to the regeneration of the area".

She added: "Not only will the new development help to boost the local economy, but it will create a more attractive and dynamic town centre for the whole community to enjoy."

Funding for the new campus is reportedly dependent on the redevelopment of the Amersham and Flackwell Heath sites into residential properties.
