The new owner of a pub in Amersham has grand plans to make it ‘approachable for everyone’.

Tushar Gupta, 40, took over The White Lion pub between Amersham and Little Chalfont midway through January and while he has already made some changes to the popular local boozer, he says there are many more still to come.

Tushar, who lives down the road in Langley, also owns the coffee shop and bistro We Love Coffee in Harefield and has been working in hospitality for nearly 20 years.

As a result, he has a clear vision for The White Lion, as a “welcoming and homey” space serving a mix of freshly cooked and high-quality Indian cuisine alongside pub classics and a speciality wine list.

The 40-year-old is also planning to furnish a multi-purpose events space in the pub for business meetings and has already been in touch with the organisers of local food markets and beer festivals about collaborations down the line.

“My aim is to keep it a pub, not turn it into a restaurant, but I want to make sure that it’s approachable for everyone. I’d like people to come from a construction site, from an office, from a funeral… Whatever is going on, we’ll provide a decent, honest plate of food with the same service.

“Our customers in Harefield mentioned how nice Amersham was, which was what made us interested in looking at pubs in the area. Business is very good so far – people have been very accepting of the changes that we’re bringing.

“It’s a real bit of excitement seeing the place filling up and getting to dive into all the promotional work. I’m someone who likes to be involved in everything, so it’s been busy!”
