A man who was involved in a single-vehicle car crash at the start of the month in Beaconsfield believes ‘more needs to be done’ to avoid similar incidents from happening.

Now, nearly one month on from the incident, the 81-year-old believes ‘more needs to be done’ to prevent similar crashes, as the raised kerb he drove into is yet to be repaired.

John Evans, who lives in Howe Drive in the town, was driving back from Cheltenham after he watched and celebrated Wycombe Wanderers secure a 3-1 victory against the West Country-based team on February 3.

Upon entering the Buckinghamshire town at around 7pm that night, he decided to head towards New Town to ‘get some Chinese food’, but struck a kerb along London End in Old Town.

The incident lasted for ‘two to three seconds’, and despite the police and paramedics being called to the scene, Mr Evans didn’t suffer any physical injuries.

However, he did admit he was ‘shaken’ and felt ‘psychologically damaged’.

Now, nearly one month on from the incident, the 81-year-old believes ‘more needs to be done’ to prevent similar crashes, as the raised kerb he drove into is yet to be repaired.

He said: “I’m not happy about it one bit.

“More needs to be done to stop this from happening again, as what I went through was horrific.

“I know I’m partly at fault as I drove into it (the kerb), but when the people came over to help me, they said it’s been gone for a long time.

“We need to do something to try and sort this out.”

Data shown on crashmap.co.uk has revealed that 46 incidents have been reported along that stretch of Old Town Beaconsfield since 1999, with the data last being updated in 2022.

The stats show that 39 incidents have been deemed as slight, six as serious and one being fatal.

The latter took place in June 2009.

Following the incident, Mr Evans’ car has been described as a 'write-off', and has been given a hire vehicle instead.

He continued: “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else, and I am absolutely incensed by this.

“One is through what happened, but two is down the lack of help people have given me to try and get this sorted.”

A Buckinghamshire Council spokesman said: “We have checked this crossing following a recent road traffic collision and the Belisha beacons are all in working order.

"Repairs to the kerb and bollards are expected to get underway soon; there has been a slight delay while we waited on necessary materials but we should be able to schedule these works in shortly, we apologise for any inconvenience and thank local people for bearing with us.”
