A local man has set his sights on running the London Marathon to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

Hilton Lindo, from Burnham, is preparing to run the Marathon on April 21 to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis charity MS-UK

Hilton’s wife, Jyotika, was diagnosed with MS in March 2004, just six months after their wedding.

The condition has progressed over the years from “relapsing remitting” to “secondary progressive” in recent years and now Jyotika permanently relies on a wheelchair.

Members of the community may know Jyotika as the former director of the Burnham Community Association who has helped with the organisation and promotion of the Village Fete for several years.

Hilton last ran the marathon in 2018 and says the challenge of running 26.2miles is nothing like his wife's battle to walk a couple of steps and battling fatigue, muscle spasms, stiffness, numbness and tingling sensations

Hilton said: “I am honoured to be supporting a cause close to me, an organisation that helps those affected by MS and their families.

"After six months of unwavering dedication and relentless training in all types of crazy weather, the big event is just around the corner.

"I am running the marathon again, whilst I have the fortune of good health, to help support people like my inspirational wife, living with multiple sclerosis."

Hilton hopes to raise £5,000 for the charity, with a Just Giving page set up at justgiving.com/fundraising/hiltonlindo24
