Those at Amersham Parish Council have thanked members of the public who have helped the town blossom by planting several purple crocuses.

The project, which began in the spring of 2010, has seen numerous primary school students get involved in laying the seeds of the flower.

Now, well over a decade later, through the Rotary in Amersham and many school pupils, more than 120,000 crocuses have been planted on the verges throughout Amersham.

But why purple crocuses?

The Parish Council and the Rotary Club said: “The purple crocus is a symbol of the campaign by Rotary throughout the world to finally eradicate polio.

“So as well as adding splashes of colour it is hoped that the crocuses will raise awareness of the campaign.”
