A ‘very girly girl’ has opened up about working in a Buckinghamshire prison alongside her mother.
Tayler Myburgh, 21, is employed by HMP Aylesbury, as well as her mother, 57-year-old, Linda.
The two are prison officers at the Bierton Road establishment; a category C jail which houses around 400 male inmates.
The 21-year-old’s current line of work is a world away from her previous job, where she embarked on a career in the elderly-care industry.
Speaking to the BBC, Tayler said: “For me, being young, I think I shock people when I say that I'm a prison officer working at Aylesbury prison.
"I like to get my lashes done, I like to get my nails done. I'm very girly.
"There's also the stereotype of men working in the jail rather than women, but I think there are more women than men working as officers."
According to the statistics from the Gov website, there was a 1.2 per cent increase in female prison officers in England and Wales between March 2022 and March 2023.
The data also reveals that females represent 54.9 per cent of staff across the two nations, whilst 48.9 per cent of new joiners are under 30-years-old.
Her mother, Linda, also told the BBC: "Tayler's a very girly girl, and she likes nice things and dressing up.
"It's like I've got two Taylers - one at work and one at home.
"Tayler and I were probably the first mother-and-daughter duo [at the prison].
"I'm very proud of Tayler, and I'm proud of the achievements that she's completed in her life up until now, and I'm hoping she'll go further, and I know she will."
