A key route between Cookham and Bourne End has reopened after it was closed last night due to safety concerns.
Cookham Bridge has now reopened following an overnight closure after "two large concrete blocks" broke loose from a temporary mooring upstream and made contact with the Grade-II listed structure.
A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council said: “Cookham Bridge has reopened following an overnight closure after floating loose concrete came into contact with part of the bridge yesterday.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
An emergency duty officer for the RBWM council previously said one of the blocks was "slowly sinking" and posed the risk of "becoming lodged under the bridge and causing damage to the structure".
They said they had asked Volker Highways to put road closure signs at both ends of the bridge until a structural assessment could take place.
Cookham Bridge was originally closed in October 2023 2023 for “essential maintenance” works that included bearing replacement, re-waterproofing, resurfacing and joint replacement.
It was reopened by the RBWM council ahead of schedule on Friday, March 15.
