A woman was told to ‘be quiet’ during a planning meeting as tempers flared over an application to lower the kerb outside a house.

Buckinghamshire Council officers tried to prevent the occupants of 12 Gaviots Green, Gerrards Cross, improving access onto their drive with a new dropped kerb.

They urged councillors on the South Buckinghamshire Planning Committee to reject the plans, which also included tarmacking over a frequently churned up patch of grass.

However, committee members defied officers’ recommendations for refusal, and instead unanimously voted to approve the application.

During the meeting, councillors and residents were in disbelief that officers had tried to refuse the application on the grounds that it would result in the loss of a disabled parking space, which was already said to have been removed.

Cllr Andrew Wood said: “Why are we wasting our time having a meeting in this type of environment when it would appear black and white that this should have been granted?”

Local resident Mrs Linda Puddifoot told members: “I am absolutely astonished beyond belief that this has been refused.”

When she tried to speak again outside her allocated slot, committee chairman Cllr Trevor Egleton cut her off, saying: “Please be quiet.”
