A Beaconsfield mother who lost her baby unexpectedly hopes people will come together to remember Eddie on his 10 year anniversary next month.

Jennifer Reid launched the charity Teddy's Wish with her husband Chris after their son died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Eddie Reid was just three months old when he passed away on April 16, 2014.

His parents set up the charity driven by the need to find out answers into how and why a "seemingly healthy baby could die unexpectedly".

Jennifer said: "Losing Eddie was, and always will be, the most devastating loss for us.

Bucks Free Press: Baby Eddie

"Every anniversary is hard but there is something very poignant about 10 years, perhaps because society teaches us to celebrate milestones in decades: birthdays, anniversaries, etc…For us, 10 years marks another year without our baby boy but it also is a time of reflection.

"It feels like a life time ago but it also feels like yesterday that we had to say our final goodbye. This is something that no parent should ever have to do and flows against the natural order of life.

"There is an old adage that time is a healer but anyone who has experienced grief will know that it never goes away, it ebbs and flows.

"What time does give you is more coping mechanisms. For us, we have had 10 years of learning to live with our grief which has allowed us to move forward with Eddie in our hearts."

Jennifer and Chris now have two children, Ollie, 8, and Chloe, 6, who have "shone lots of light and happiness" back into their lives. But they will always be a family of five with Eddie in their hearts.

Now, the charity raises funds for research into the causes of SIDS,  neonatal death and stillbirth and provides bereavement support for grieving families.

The family has organised a bike ride 'Teddy's 10 Year Tour' starting and finishing at Davenies School in Beaconsfield on Saturday, May 18.

The school has donated the use of their facilities for the event.

Cyclists will be taking part in a Chiltern loop of 100 miles, 100km or 50km. At the end of the ride, there will be food and drink celebrations.

Jennifer said: "We are incredibly proud and humbled of everything we have achieved over the last ten years at Teddy’s Wish.

"It means so much to us to know that everything we are doing to support bereaved families is because of our baby boy.

"And it is a fitting tribute to Eddie – he was only here with us for three short months but his impact will last a life time. "
