Police destroyed an old military flare after a search operation launched following the arrest of a 48-year-old man in Marlow.

Officers found the flare while carrying out a search at an undisclosed location in the town on Thursday, May 2.

It followed the arrest of a 48-year-old man from Marlow on suspicion of a Section 3 offence under the 1972 Poisons Act.

The flare had degraded, and with support from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, it was taken to Wiltshire Road where it was destroyed on the same day.

The man has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

A Section 3 offence applies when a member of the public imports, acquires, possesses or uses unregulated explosives or poison without a licence.

In March, a 23-year-old man from Marlow was charged with weapon and drug possession after also being arrested under the Poisons Act.

Six homes in James Close were temporarily evacuated on March 23 after chemicals were found during a warranted property search.

Thames Valley Police conducted a similar evacuation on March 26 when "further items" were found at the property that warranted examination from specialist teams.

Morgan Thackwell, 23, was charged on the same day with two counts of having an offensive weapon in a private place and possession of cocaine, cannabis and a firearm.
