High Wycombe car fire outside Oakridge Primary School

In the afternoon of Tuesday, March 4, firefighters from Bucks Fire and Rescue attended the scene along Oakridge Road in the town.

Dramatic footage taken by resident Julio Castillo showed that a white Mercedes, which also happened to be a taxi, was engulfed in flames just yards away from Oakridge Primary School.

The intense heat from the fire also caused significant damage to a nearby car that was badly burnt in the inferno.

The incident occurred around 2.50pm, roughly 10 minutes before school finished for the day.

The incident happened by Oakridge Primary School (Julio Castillo) (Image: Julio Castillo) However, to ensure the safety of students and staff members, everyone remained inside the school building whilst the firefighters dealt with the blaze.

The youngsters remained indoors for around 30 to 40 minutes, with parents and guardians entering the school via a one-way system to pick up their children once it was safe to do so.

The car involved was a taxi (Julio Castillo) (Image: Julio Castillo) A spokesperson from Oakridge Primary has told the Free Press that ‘everyone is fine’ and there is ‘no damage’ to school property.

Bucks Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters were called to, and extinguished, a car fire affecting another car nearby.

"One car was damaged 100 per cent by fire, the second car was approximately damaged 15 per cent.

"Firefighters put cordons in place to make the area safe for the public.

"Firefighters used one set of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.

"The incident was left with Thames Valley Police."
