PRINCES Risborough's manicured lawns and “admirable” sporting facilities saw it being presented with the county's best kept village award today.

Judges in the competition crowned Risborough as the cream of the crop, putting it above eight other rural villages in the Pushman Cup category.

Lord-Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, presented beaming mayor Alan Turner with the gleaming silver cup during a small ceremony.

Sir Henry told assembled guests the judges thought the village's community centre was an “excellent” and “much used facility”, and they had been impressed by the Brush Hill Wildlife area. He said: “They left with a very strong impression that all the residents cared for their town and its surroundings.

“Many, many congratulations.”

This is the fourth time Princes Risborough has scooped the title of best kept village in the competition's 51 year history, having won the title in 2001 and 2003.

Previously it has also won the Michaelis Cup, but this is now presented to urban towns and villages, such as Marlow and Amersham.

Councillor Turner said: “It's a great privilege and honour for Princes Risborough to receive this trophy. I'd like to say thank you to all of the residents as well who have played their part in keeping the town clean and tidy.”
