A BEACONSFIELD father is set to hold a charity night with a difference in memory of his daughter.

Grant Joel, of Candlemas Mead, has organised a party to kick-start fundraising for charity Climb, which offers support to families affected by metabolic disorders.

Mr Joel’s daughter, Katie, died aged 18 months in November 2001.

The property and logistics company owner who is also father to 13-year-old Tamsyn, will be joined by four friends for a special performance of the ‘full monty’ to help the cause at the Bell House Hotel, Oxford Road, Beaconsfield, on Saturday.

He said: “We were looking through some brochures about other events going on and we saw something about male strippers.

"We ummed and ahhed and essentially sounded people out and asked if they were prepared to do it - as a bit of a gimmick.”

Raffles to win prizes including a ski and golf holidays and spa breaks will also be on offer on the night, he added.

This is the first of Mr Joel’s fundraising activities - he is also due to run the London Marathon next April with friend Phil McComb for the charity.

He added: “I feel the need to do something unique to remember Katie. It breaks the natural order of things to bury your own child.

"Carrying the tiny coffin of your own child is something I wish no one ever had to endure.

“I had to administer so many horrible treatments to help manage Katie’s condition.

"I think it is only right and proper that I put myself through this marathon, in the hope that my temporary battle to complete such a physical challenge may lead to more palatable treatments to manage these conditions.

“If I can do that, Katie’s short life will have had a lasting impact on the lives of such special children like Katie and the parents who live with and love them."
