THE cold snap is set to continue until the end of the week after temperatures plummeted to nearly minus 12 last night.
Chesham was the joint coldest place in Britain last night along with Benson in Oxfordshire, with the mercury falling to minus 11.8 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in High Wycombe was minus 5.4 degrees.
Arctic conditions have frozen over the pond in Lowndes Park in Chesham, and snow remains on the ground throughout the Chiltern hills.
Sarah Holland from the Met Office said temperatures are likely to stay around freezing for the rest of the week – but it could be as warm as seven degrees on Sunday.
She said: “It will start to warm up as the weekend goes on.
“Overnight tonight there will be more cloud around and temperatures will be down to minus two.
“Looking at the weekend, temperatures will gradually pick up with a maximum of three degrees on Saturday and seven degrees on Sunday.”
