CAR crime in Wycombe has dropped substantially compared to this time last year, according to official police figures.

So far this year there have been 160 less thefts from vehicles, and 85 less vehicles have been taken, compared to the same time last year.

The reduction has been put down to less people leaving valuables on display in their cars, which is an area the Community Safety Partnership has been focussing attention on.

Councillor Tony Green, Wycombe District Council's Cabinet Member for Younger and Older People commented: "It is a simple message but it is very important.

“Just by taking a few minutes before they leave their vehicle to place bags in the boot or loose change in the glove box people really could avoid becoming a victim of crime."

A poster warning motorists not to leave valuables on display has also been put up in London Road, High Wycombe, as part of the drive by the partnership, which includes WDC and the police.

Inspector Russ Murden, of Wycombe Police Station, said: "We want people to remember their visit to Wycombe for all the right reasons.

“Although car crime is coming down in the area, this poster should help jog more drivers' memory's to keep their valuables safe from thieves."
