I AM a great believer that newfangled ideas are generally wrong, or misplaced.

I am certain that Pope Urban VIII was right in asking Galileo Galilei (1564 to 1642) to recant the findings in his book ‘Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems’, that the Earth moved around the Sun and not the other way around.

Amazingly a mere 350 years later in 1992, Pope John Paul II bizarrely contradicted this view!

The Flat Earth Society still promotes what most people believed in the Middle Ages, that if you sailed west far enough you disappeared over the edge.

Having not ventured further west than Penzance, I have no proof that these stringent and heroic believers are wrong.

If one calculates when the Earth was created, using dates stated in the Bible, one evidently arrives at a date of 4004BC.

Defending this figure, ‘Creationists’ state that God created fossils and deliberately deposited them around the planet in a random fashion.

In addition evolution has not, and will not, take place as God creates everything as it is.

Surely such an important book must be right.

Oh, and ‘Global Warming?’ – no evidence at all!
