A CURRY chef from a High Wycombe restaurant is celebrating after cooking his 100,000th madras.

Sobuj Patwary, head cook at Bombay Palace in Crendon Street, took 10 years to achieve the feat – meaning that he would have to have cooked the dish nearly 30 times every day.

He said it was a personal goal for him: “I'm very happy.

“I made it every single day – sometimes 35 or 40 madras. Weekly I made over 200.”

His signature dish received national praise when he was recognised as the top chef in the south east region at the National Curry Awards.

Mr Patwary went on to compete in the finals in Birmingham, where he squared off against six other cooks from across the nation, but was unable to claim the prize.

His boss Kazi Islam said: “He's a recognised chef – his curry is really good.

“He's so busy at the weekends and people come back because they like his curry.”

On Sunday night staff from the restaurant got together to enjoy Mr Patwary's milestone curry.

The veteran chef cooked up his 100,000th madras served with wine and celebration.

“We had a good night,” he said.
