Artists, musicians and actors across the borough will be celebrated at this year’s Hillingdon Arts Week, which runs from Sunday, May 31 until Saturday, June 6.

Now in its third year, the festival boasts a wealth of exhibitions, shows and events.

For literature-lovers, My Favourite Words on Monday, May 1, at the Civic Centre, will feature councillors reading their favourite poem, or an extract from a book or speech. Uxbridge Library is also holding a Play Reading Group on Tuesday, May 2, where youngsters can take part, read a character or just listen.

Art fans can enjoy a demonstration of still life by Bernadette Collins at the Society of Ruislip Artists meeting, held at The Manor Farm House in Ruislip, on Tuesday, May 2.

There is also an open air exhibition from The Ickenham Art Society at the junction of Long Lane and Swakeleys Road on Saturday, June 6.

Music enthusiasts have plenty to choose from, including a jazz concert with Jacqui Hicks and Karen Sharp at Northwood Golf Club on Tuesday, June 6 and Dancing In The Streets with contemporary dance outfit Club Ceroc on Thursday, June 4.

This year’s event also features a special festival of Asian Music and Dance, from Thursday, June 4 to Saturday, June 6, at the Winston Churchill Hall in Ruislip. The programme includes a performance from the Punjabi Theatre Academy, a dance and drama show from the Hindu Cultural Association, a Bollywood show from the Dancing Nikita Company and an Indian classical music concert featuring singer Manickam Yogeswran.
