MOTORISTS have been warned to brace themselves for more motorway misery until Thursday at the earliest.

Engineers from The Highways Agency have been making emergency repairs on the M40, between junctions 1A at the M25 intersection and 2, Beaconsfield, since Sunday to conduct emergency pothole repairs.

Simon Hinds, regional press officer for The Highways Agency, said: “We are making urgent repairs to a 3m deep by 3m wide cavity caused by subsidence underneath the carriageway.

“The damage is in lanes 2 and 3 of the northbound M40 near London and to ensure the ongoing safety of road users three lanes will remain closed until the repairs are completed.”

The hard shoulder and lane one of the northbound carriageway will remain open with a 50mph speed limit for traffic. Heavy goods vehicles are advised to use the hard shoulder.

Mr Hinds said the reason some motorists have reported a lack of activity at the roadworks at times was because workmen had to wait until concrete and repair materials had set before carrying on repairs.

The Highways Agency advises drivers to check traffic updates before setting off on journeys and to consider alternate routes.
