TV star opens Cherry Pie Fair

TV STAR Warren Clarke switched from criminal investigator to fancy-dress judge as he officially opened Seer Green C of E School's Cherry Pie Fair yesterday.

The Dalziel and Pascoe actor, 62, was on hand to open the annual event, which raises money for the school PTA and pays homage to the village's heritage and links to the cherry.

After a march through the village by the school's pupils, the Clockwork Orange star, who lives in Beaconsfield, judged the fancy dress competition before hundreds of visitors enjoyed the various stalls and famous cherry pies.

Mr Clarke said: “It's really nice to be able to events like this, it's something I enjoy doing. I do a lot of work for charity such as the various charity golf days and it's wonderful.

“I'm hosting a charity golf day for Mencap in Bicester on Wednesday and then last week we had another golf day in Stoke Park – on top of all that, I'm also trying to fit work in as well.

“I'm filming Lewis at the moment and after that I plan to relax for a moment. I've spent about 25 years working successively and I just want to take a break and spend some time with my family and come to a few family fun days like this one.”

The community event, held in School Road, marked parent Helen Lindsey-Clark's tenth and final year making more than 800 cherry pies.

She said: “I've made 800 mini-pies and 30 large cherry pies every year for ten years and believe it or not, I'll miss doing it next year.

“This whole area around the school and the parish hall used to be awash with cherry orchards, it is part of the heritage of the local community, so every year we honour that heritage with this event.

“It's a great day for not only the school but the whole village – everyone is here today having a great time. I won't be making the pies next year but I'll be here to eat one or two”
