SIX south Bucks businesses have received a boost after being awarded a recession fighting fund from Buckinghamshire County Council.
The council, alongside Buckinghamshire Economic and Learning Partnership (BELP), set up the £100,000 Business Challenge Fund in June to support local businesses through the credit crunch.
The council received 90 applications for the £5,000 grants, with 14 small firms around the county handed the funds, including High Wycombe sticker specialists Adcal Labels and Chesham-based online shop, 50plus.
Cllr David Shakespeare, Leader of the County Council said: “Buckinghamshire is well established as a business hub, however during this tough economic period we recognise that companies need a little helping hand and are pleased to be able to provide this support.” The six south Bucks firms to receive a grant are: Urban Front, 50plus, Hedgerail pharmacy, Ibis, Peter Davey and Adcal Labels.
Graham Grover, Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Economic and Learning Partnership said: “The response from local businesses has been overwhelmingly positive which shows why Buckinghamshire is the entrepreneurial heart of Britain. “The quality and creativity demonstrated has been very high, making our job very difficult.
“We congratulate those companies that have received a grant and believe they will continue to prosper.”
The second wave of bidders are currently being reviewed by the partnership, with an announcement to be made in the coming weeks.
Firms which have not been successful in securing Business Challenge Fund grants may be eligible for assistance from alternative sources and should contact Business Link on 0845 6009006 or www.businesslink.gov.uk for free and impartial advice.
