Owner of "abandoned" horses in Little Marlow identified

Seven horses and two foals were left in the field last week Seven horses and two foals were left in the field last week

THE OWNER of nine horses left in a Little Marlow field last week has identified himself.

Mr Stokes left his phone number on a gate at the field in Westhorpe Park and when contacted by the Bucks Free Press said: “There is no problem with the horses. I'm looking after them and have picked up the notices left by the RSPCA.”

Mr Stokes refused to give his first name.

He added: “Over the weekend I sent a boy to clean up the field and I've been talking to the owner of the field about renting it.”

However the owners of the field today denied that Mr Stokes had been in contact with them.

North West Estates director Ken Finken said: “No I've heard nothing from the owner of the horses. But I understand that water troughs in the field have been opened up so the horses have some water at least."

An inspector from World Horse Welfare and the RSPCA went to check on the horses yesterday.

Spokesman Sophie Wilkinson said: "They have given further advice notices to the owner regarding the lack of water and tidying up the field. The horses have some water but not enough – they are fine though."

Seven horses and two foals were abandoned in a field near the Marlow interchange this week - leaving an RSPCA inspector concerned for their welfare.

The above is from the last story

Spokesman Sophie Wilkinson said: "They have given further advice notices to the owner regarding the lack of water and tidying up the field. The horses have some water but not enough – they are fine though."

WHW field officer phoned me and said they had spoken to owner about lack of water which has now been provided. Grazing is good and horses' condition good with trees giving shade and shelter. WHW and RSPCA will be monitoring situation.
They have issued warning to clear rubbish which must be done

My joke got censored. All I said was that I bet the owner feels like an a$$.

On second thoughts that didn't deserve a re-post...

It's because the a*s*s you typed is checked by an American spell-checker and it 'thinks' you are talking about bottoms (that's considered naughty !)
.
I agree about the the second thoughts however. Regards

Put the horses in care, charge the owner for it, don't let him have them back until he has his own facilities.

I suppose it makes a change from putting your caravan into a field, building a hardstanding/few walls and then asking for planning permission.
Just put your horses in a field, go off for a bit, then ask the owner if you can rent it.
See the similarity?
He won't give his first name and I bet he only has a mobile telephone number as well. Next thing you know he will be growing "lucky" heather in the corner of the field.

World Horse Welfare fieldofficer phoned me again today about the horses at Little Marlow. He said the water trough has now been linked up to the main supply. Not all rubbish has been cleared but people were there clearing some of it. Horses condition is satisfactory although I shudder to think what the owner has intentions of doing with them. If you care about horses join the WHW - £2 per month hepls this admirable organisation.
