A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE from Gerrards Cross is urging entrepreneurs to pitch ideas to him via the social networking site Twitter.

Simon Dolan, who got his first job working on an egg and cheese stall when he was 14, says the 'Tweet a Pitch' concept will be like a 'micro' Dragon's Den.

He believes the best ideas can often be pitched in under 30 seconds – about the time it will take to read a Twitter message of 140 characters or less.

Mr Dolan, who owns SJD Accountancy, will take the best ideas forward, before making a decision on the business that he would like to invest in.

He said: “With loans still hard to come by, people are looking for new and innovative ways to gain funds for their business idea.

“We are only just beginning to see the full potential of Twitter as a communication medium, and the ‘Tweet a Pitch' idea is the next step forward.”

Mr Dolan said he was asked to leave school at the age of 16 for being too inquisitive.

He then did some work experience in an accountancy firm for 18 months - but he quit when he was refused a pay rise.

After running out of money and credit, he was sitting in his bedroom and decided to spend his last £10 on placing an advert in the local paper offering to do end of year accounts for small businesses.

He said nothing happened for about three weeks, and then the first client came in and SJD Accountancy was born.

He said the firm is now one of the fastest growing accountancy firms in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £11m and offices in eight UK cities. He also owns several other companies besides SJD, including motor racing team Jota Sport.
