TRAFFIC came to a standstill at Wycombe Marsh Retail Park again this weekend, leaving some drivers to find alternative parking.

Congestion had eased compared to last week when the Midweek reported on the gridlock which left people trapped in the car park for two hours, but there were still long queues.

One couple from Fennels Road, Graham and Linda Stevens, said they had tried to drive in but due to the queues had to park nearby and walk to the shops.

Mrs Stevens said: “The entrance is a bit of a joke. It is a bottleneck. It needs two entrances really or a separate entrance and exit.”

A road closure at the junction of Ryemead Way and Wrights Meadow Road meant cars were only able to leave the park at the A40 London Road exit.

However, one shop worker did say it had eased compared to last weekend.

David Williams, section co-ordinator for Marks and Spencer's, who started work at 2pm said: “It was freely flowing on the A40 and I had no real problems coming in.

“It has been fairly busy over the last couple of hours but it is the normal sort of traffic levels.

“Last week it was pretty horrendous.”

The Wrights Meadow Road will be closed for six weeks altogether while work is carried out to build a roundabout for the St James development.

Andy Stace, manger at PC World said: “I don't think it has been quite as bad as last week. The traffic has been a bit up and down all day.

“I think trade has been affected though. I have spoken to a few customers and they said they wouldn't have bothered coming if they had known the queues would be as bad.”
