A 19-YEAR-OLD woman who died in a car crash in Amersham on New Year's Eve has been identified.

She has been named as Katy Hanafan of Sleets End, Hemel Hempstead.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, on the A413 between the roundabouts for the A404 and Gore Hill, after her silver Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a red Mazda RX8.

Flowers dedicated to her memory were left at the scene of the accident and dozens of friends left messages of remembrance for the tragic teenager on the social networking website Facebook.

Pal Stefanie Bailey said on the popular website: “R.I.P Katy Hanafan the most beautiful brightest shining star in the night sky. We were so lucky to have you and heaven is reunited with its angel.”

Terri Carlisle wrote: “Before I got a chance to say bye God came and took you to the sky. I hope there will be a time when we will all meet again.”

Daniel Miller said: “Katy you were always a star, and loved by all. Rest in peace, your memories will always go on.”

Many left messages of support for Katy's boyfriend Mark Wamsley, who said: “I just want to thank everyone so much for all the support, it's going to be a lonely world without Katy and she will be greatly missed but without everyone I don't know what I would have done."

Ben Jackson was one of many to console Mark, saying: “Everyone is here for you Mark. Katy is such a lovely girl. She'll be looking over you with every step you take. One day you'll be back together, and it'll be forever. Keep your chin up mate. R.i.P Katy.”

A post-mortem is due to take place tomorrow morning.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 5.15pm, to get in touch.
