FOOTBALL fans will be pulling on their hiking boots to help raise money to fund the re-build of a British Legion club destroyed by fire.

The Chesham branch of the Royal British Legion was gutted in an arson attack in May last year.

A fundraising appeal was set up following the blaze – and Chesham United supporters will be contributing to it through a sponsored walk later this month.

Between 20 and 25 fans have so far agreed to walk the 19 miles to The Generals' local derby match with Leighton Town on Saturday February 27.

Fans will be setting off from Chesham's Meadow ground at around 6.30am, taking in the Grand Union Canal towpath along the way.

Organiser Dave Jeffrey joked: “It's the day after the comedy night at the club, which might mean a few sore heads.”

He said: “It's usually good fun. The last couple we've done have raised about £3,000 for the Iain Rennie Hospice and the Heritage House School in Chesham.”

Part of the money raised will go to the club.

Any more supporters looking to part in the walk can contact Mr Jeffrey on news@cheshamunited.co.uk.
