RE: Look Who’s Talking column, January 29, headlined ‘I landed in hole load of trouble’.

COLIN Baker, and other road users who have suffered vehicle damage from potholes should know that claims can be made against the local authority provided the council knows the potholes causing the damage exist.

This is why potholes should be reported to Bucks CC.

Roads in Buckinghamshire have been left in a very poor condition for several years and now, after the recent severe snow and frosts, the cracked and holed roads have deteriorated to an unacceptable and dangerous level. This is the consequence of the council failing to repair the roads when cracks first appear.

Had the roads been maintained properly the situation would be minor. Bucks CC, and ultimately the council taxpayers, are now paying heavily for false economies.

Potholes not only damage tyres and vehicles they also increase accidents because drivers need to watch the road surface, they add to air pollution and delay journey times.

Keeping road surfaces in good condition should be one of the highest priorities of the council.
