YOUR recent article ‘Wycombe District Council may invest millions in new stadium’ raises the question what do Wasps bring to High Wycombe that makes Wycombe District Council so desperate to keep them here?
The only answer that I have been given so far is ‘prestige’.
If, as seems probable, the council taxpayers of Wycombe are being asked to ‘invest’ millions of pounds in a new stadium, I suggest that they will want something more tangible than prestige in return for their money. It may be all the more galling that WDC should be agreeing this expenditure at a time when it is withdrawing grants from charities and support from facilities used by local people.
I fail to see however how any time can be the right time for WDC to finance a rich man’s pet project.
