A MARLOW woman whose life was endangered after suffering a collapsed lung four times said the support she has received has been “overwhelming”.

Lisa Hawes, 41, of Dedmere Court, underwent major lung surgery at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex last year.

On Saturday she raised £1,200 for the hospital with a Valentines party and another £500 for the Firefighters Charity.

Mrs Hawes, the administrator at High Wycombe fire station, said she wanted to repay the hospital and friends in the fire service for their help in saving her life.

The mother-of-two said: “The way they treat you in Harefield, the care is absolutely unbelievable, you don't realise the affect it's going to have on your life until you suffer from something like this.

“The support I've received has been absolutely overwhelming and I want to thank people from the bottom of my heart.”

About 120 people attended the weekend event, held at Marlow Football Club in Oak Tree Road, where band Whipjack provided the musical entertainment.

Mrs Hawes, formerly a retained firefighter at Marlow fire station, thanked the club, band and Buckinghamshire Fire Service colleagues for their help.

She spent time at the fire service's recuperation centre – Harcombe House in Devon – while recovering from her operations.

Mrs Hawes has now gone back to her job at High Wycombe fire station after the surgery was successful.
