AN ENRAGED householder has hit out at the “absolutely disgusting” behaviour of Marlow dog owners who let their pets foul on the street.

Laura Brondbjerg, 53, who works for Virgin Atlantic, said she had even seen dog mess outside shops in Marlow town centre when the snow fell recently.

Mrs Brondbjerg, of Mill Road, Marlow, complained to Wycombe District Council after frequently seeing mess in South Place and more recently, Crown Place.

She believes the problem is widespread across the town.

“People don't care at all. It's absolutely disgusting, I think they should be highly fined. If I ever caught them I would follow them home and report them,” she said.

“If you let children children do that in the street they would soon have something to say about it.”

She said she was shocked to see faeces outside Marks and Spencer in the town centre in January.

Mrs Brondbjerg added: “There's one thing letting your dog do that, but to allow them to do it outside a shop door way during the day?”

Anyone seen by dog wardens allowing their dogs to foul face a penalty fine of £50.

Dog warden patrols have increased in South Place and additional signs have been put up. No fouling was witnessed.

Leanne Watson, spokesman for Wycombe District Council, said signs are in place to “remind owners of their responsibility”.

She said: “Dog owners/walkers are required to act responsibly and within the law and clear up after their dog.”

There were 210 requested call outs to dog wardens across the district in 2009, predominantly because of fouling.

Only 36 requests have been lodged this year.

However, these calls can also be about stray dogs that have been found, aggressive dogs, and noise from barking.

WDC has run a competition to encourage owners to clear up after their dogs.

Pupils were asked to design a poster to promote the "Grab it! Bag It! Bin It" message.

The winner will be announced next month.
