A CHESHAM man with a long history of alcohol abuse died from the “sheer volume” of drink he had consumed, an inquest heard.

Jason Aris was found dead at his flat in Great Hivings on December 4, with the living room area strewn with empty cider cans and whiskey bottles.

He was found by police officers after a friend became concerned for the divorced 39-year-old’s welfare.

The Amersham inquest heard Mr Aris, who was unemployed, had been suffering from alcohol abuse since 1992.

His GP said in a statement Mr Aris had previously admitted to drinking nine litres of cider a day, and estimated he spent 80 per cent of his disposable income on alcohol.

A post mortem showed he died of acute alcohol intoxication. His blood/alcohol level was 97.6mg/dl. The legal drink-drive limit is 80mg/dl.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Richard Hulett said: “In the end it appears he has, one day, expired from the sheer volume of drink he has taken.”
