RE: ‘Dog Owners are being more irresponsible’, Richard JC English, BFP letters February 19.

OKAY, so some dog owners are irresponsible and don’t pick up their dog mess and I fully agree with you that it is both unhygienic and unhealthy.

But let’s be honest – the vast number of dog owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs, and Mr English is being very stupid by attempting to blame ‘mothers who have dropped their kiddies off at school’.

Your second point in reference to your so-called ‘attack’ dogs shows you have a very basic and limited knowledge of dogs.

Any dog in the wrong hands can be dangerous.

It is how they are treated, brought up and looked after that ‘creates’ your dog’s personality.

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and for Mr English to brand it an ‘attack’ dog is way off the mark.

I have three children under ten and am more than happy to leave them with the dog.

In fact, my two year old often uses her as a pillow.

Mr English also states that he has seen owners of Staffordshire Bull Terriers ‘whirling their dogs in the air on the end of leads, sticks etc’. I haven’t, but I do know that most dogs are excited by going for walks and this doesn’t mean they are dangerous, so don’t try to make out this is enough to warrant them as ‘attack’ dogs.

Most owners say ‘don’t worry, he is gentle’ because they are.

My personal opinion is that Mr English gets his facts correct before pointing the finger.
